VPN Providers

Wirebump works with two VPN providers: Mullvad VPN and Proton VPN. Both are no-logs providers with strong privacy track records, independent audits, and WireGuard support.

Both providers work seamlessly with Wirebump’s topology builder. Use them individually, in parallel, or chained together for multi-hop circuits.

Wirebump supports adding multiple accounts per provider. You can have two or more Mullvad VPN accounts, two or more Proton VPN accounts, or any combination.

This enables split knowledge configurations where different accounts handle different layers of your VPN circuit. The entry hop uses one account. The exit hop uses another. Neither account holder sees both your real IP and your destination traffic.

For more on why this matters: Split Knowledge

  1. Open the Wirebump web UI
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Find the VPN Providers section
  4. Enter your account credentials

Accounts are stored locally on the Wirebump device. Credentials never leave your hardware.

Different providers operate in different jurisdictions with different trust boundaries. If one provider is compromised or legally compelled, the other layers of your circuit remain intact.

Chaining Mullvad VPN and Proton VPN together means:

  • Neither provider sees both ends of your connection
  • A compromise at one provider does not expose your full traffic path
  • You are not relying on a single company’s infrastructure or legal standing

This is the same principle behind Tor’s design, applied to commercial VPNs with better performance characteristics.
